Every student likes to be successful in their academics, I don't think there is anyone who prefers to be a failure.

With my vast experience in dealing with various students across the nation, there is one general desire among students that is so common and it is Academic Excellence.

Academic Success sets you out among your peers, it makes you to be respected even by your lecturers. Academic success is usually associated with opportunities like funds, scholarships, employment, etc.

So many desire to always be at top of their class or department right from the 100level or ND 1 but they failed to realized that there are always steps to follow for them to achieve their desires.

Let me quickly show you 10 important tips that you should follow and live by every night and day if you truly desire to achieve academic success.

1. DEFINE YOUR GOAL: It is paramount for every student to envision which result he or she wants to achieve right from the very first day of the academic session. I would like to advise you to write it out bold and paste it somewhere in your room where you can always see and read it every day. 

2. SET YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT: Doing the right thing at the right time is no doubt a key to be successful in life even beyond academics circumference. Campus life is full of so many social activities, clubs, and others. It is in your capacity to decide how you take charge of your life by putting what is right first, which is your academics and followed by social life. A lot of students have suffered from putting social life first and little effort to their academics.

3. WORK TOWARDS YOUR GOAL: Defining your goal and setting your priorities right will not bring success if you don't work towards your goal. You need to take action daily so as not to lose focus. If a student wants to be a First class/Distinction graduate, it requires studying diligently which can sometimes cause sleepless nights. Working towards your goal requires doing your assignment on time and avoid skipping lectures and so on.

4. BE DISCIPLINED: You must have a set of rules regulating your behavior. Learn to say "NO" to some requests which may flatten your goal. It is not every social gathering that you must be present, it takes discipline to take one's eyes off some pleasure and maximize such time by studying.

5. SHUN BAD COMPANY: There is this popular saying that "Evil communication corrupts good manners". No matter how disciplined you are, if you hang around with people who are not serious with their academics, you might be introduced to cultism and you are placing your academic success goal on a termination mission.

6. CHOOSE THE RIGHT FRIENDS: Examine and move closer to like-minded students. Students who share the same vision as yours, those who you can study together, and help your goals. Remember "iron sharpens iron".

7. STUDY TO UNDERSTAND NOT CRAM: 

If you desire to succeed in your academics, you must make studying a hobby after each day's lectures. This will make you understand what the topic or subject really entails. Don't join the group of people who study only for exams and they usually cram and stress their brain before the exam starts. 

8. ASK QUESTIONS: No man can lay claim to knowing all things. Don't be shy of asking questions from your lecturers whenever there is an opportunity to do so. You can also reach out to your fellow or senior colleagues who understand the course better than you do. But while doing this, be careful and be vigilant so as not to fall victim to sexual assault.

9. LEVERAGE ON TECHNOLOGY: Use tools like Google, Wikipedia and the internet to expand your horizon and broaden your understanding of any topic or course you desire. The internet is available for you to make use of, especially for research and study.

10. BE DETERMINED: Determination determines destination. Let me be frank with you, it is not always easy to follow the aforementioned tips, depression can set in most times but you must be firm and unyielding in your plans. Always remember that No Cross, No Crown.
